Published: June 2009
Genre: Romance, Vampires
Paperback: 300 pages
Rating: 4

Inspiration: my R.I.P. challenge and Weekly Zombies (check out the latest zombie reviews and blogosphere finds)

Description from amazon.com: Just when you think you have read and seen it all, something new dawns on the horizon. Julian, Max and Emily open a new door into the unreal, a door that will mesmerize the reader with shocking unexpected twists and turns as a new generation of vampires is revealed.

My thoughts:
In-a-word(s): I am neither good, nor bad, neither angel nor devil, I am a man, I am a vampire.- Michael Romkey. I, Vampire.

Don’t be fooled by the book cover. This is a YA vampire novel. Well sorta. There’s a twist. It’s a story of half human/ half vampire creatures.

Being a YA novel the first half of the book covers all the trials and tribulations of a teen girl fitting into a new school in a small town. Fortunately, the assimilation into the new school goes well. Friends, popularity and a boyfriend come easily for the main character, Emily.

You get brief peeks into Emily’s past which provides a mystery element into the story. But for the most part, the first half of the book puts you into a false sense of security.

The second half of the book picks up with some vampir-ish action. I say “ish” because you don’t get neck biting. However, you get introduced to the whole concept of a Hybrid. This part of the story is what fascinated me.

Oh yeah, there’s also a love triangle. ;-D

Then, it ends with a doozy of cliffhanger. To me, the story has just begun and I look forward to what book 2 has to offer.

Loved the vampire quotes and references that prefaced each chapter. One in particular that was an interesting tidbit was a picture in the intro pages.

Interview of Angie Reed’s Hybrid

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Today we welcome author Angie L. Reed to My Overstuffed Bookshelf. She is the author of the paranormal vampire book, HYBRID.

Can you tell us a little bit about your book, Hybrid?

Hybrid is my first and only release. It was picked up by a small but traditional publishing company out of North Carolina. It is a paranormal thriller for teens and young adults involving humans and vampires. Hybrids are half human and half vampire and a small family of hybrids are living in West Virginia. When Emily and her broken family move from Dallas, Texas to Beckley, West Virginia, she never plans on falling for one hybrid–let alone two. But she soon finds herself falling for Max and Julian–estranged twin brothers who are half vampire and half human.

When did you decide to start writing and why?

I decided to write Hybrid after reading Stephanie Meyer’s series Twilight. I was inspired by Renesmee who is half human and half vampire.

What books do you like to read when you aren’t writing?

I love to read stories about vampires. Although I’d virtually stopped reading for pleasure for awhile, I picked up my daughter’s copy of Twilight one day and couldn’t put it down! I stopped reading for pleasure when I decided to return to college to pursue a B.A. in English and then a Master of Education. Right now, I’m working on my second undergraduate degree. I substitute teach at my daughter’s private school and most of the character’s names are students at Fort Worth Academy.

What are three things you must have when sitting down to write a book?

When I sit down to write anything–books, research papers, etc.–I must have coke and junk food like chips and candy! I especially love to have chocolate.

What do you like to do in your down time?

I don’t have a lot of downtime because I’m a wife, mother, full-time student, and writer, but when I am free, I like to shop. I’m a shopaholic!

Where can we purchase your book?

My book can be purchased online at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, or bought at any book retailer. You can also order a copy from the publisher at www.argusbooks.com.

Do you have a blog where we can keep up with what your are writing and doing?

I have a webpage and you can reach my blog there. My address is angielreed.com. I love to hear from my fans and can be found on most social networking sites. I am having an author giveaway right now. I will be giving away a $100 Gift card and five signed copies of Hybrid on November 1, 2009. You can enter on my blog page at my web address.

Thanks so much for joining us today Angie!

Thanks for your time!
